Congressman Michel (R-IL) has served as House Minority Leader since 1981.  Since his election to the House in 1957, Michel has served as Republican Congressional Campaign Committee chair (1972) and  Minority Whip (1974 - 1980).  Mr. Michel has been recognized for his leadership in defense, foreign policy and agricultural issues.

  9. Mr. Michel has served for 20 years on the House Appropriations Committee and as Minority Leader, he is an ex-officio member of the House Intelligence Committee.
